I met Red on Commercial Street in Portland, Maine. Red was in a wheel chair just enjoying the weather and doing some spare changing. He is originally from Concord, New Hampshire and was “dropped off here” 5 years ago. He lives in the Milestone Foundation on India Street. Milestone is an emergency shelter, detoxification, and rehab center licensed by the state. Red says he doesn’t mind it there. “They take good care of me”.
